Techie Australia provides technology to people and organisations advancing digital inclusion. Here's how we decide who we can help.
How it works
We provide assistance to individuals through eligible organisations: schools, charities, community groups, and support services that act as accountable partners for the equipment we provide.
Individuals can receive support when they are referred by an eligible organisation. We don't accept direct, standalone requests from individuals. This model ensures fair distribution, appropriate oversight, and clear accountability.

Who can apply?
Donations are for charities registered with the ACNC whose purposes line up with ours. Other organisations, including councils and health services, can ask us to source and refurbish equipment at cost. Schools can apply. We look at each school individually, and public schools with an ICSEA below 1000 will usually qualify for donations.

Who must benefit
The technology must reach people experiencing disadvantage.
Organisations must support individuals or communities facing at least one of the following barriers. The requested technology must directly benefit these groups.
Donations and contributions
Who we donate to, and what it costs
We check your purposes line up with ours
We donate devices to charities registered with the ACNC whose purposes include digital inclusion, digital literacy, access to technology or education, or where the devices will go straight to the people they support.
You request, we propose
Your organisation makes a core contribution towards preparing each device. The amount is set out in your proposal. The people you support never pay. If we don’t have something in stock, we can source and refurbish it at cost. Shipping is at cost. You’ll see every amount before you agree to anything.

Schools can apply. We look at each school individually, and public schools with an ICSEA below 1000 will usually qualify for donations. Any core contribution is set out in the proposal, and shipping is at cost.
Source and refurbish, at cost
If your organisation isn’t an ACNC-registered charity, or its work is in a different area, we can’t donate devices to you, but we can source and refurbish equipment for you at cost. We’ll quote before you commit. We may also be able to work with you through a partnership. Talk to us.

Common questions
Why do we pay anything for donated devices?+
Getting a device ready takes real work: testing, wiping data, replacing worn parts and licensing software. Your organisation makes a core contribution towards preparing each device. The amount is set out in your proposal, and you will see it before you agree to anything. The people you support never pay.
Why isn’t my organisation eligible for donations?+
We donate only to charities registered with the ACNC whose purposes line up with ours. Our constitution only lets us use our assets for digital inclusion and literacy. A donated device becomes your organisation’s property, so we donate only where your purposes include things like digital inclusion, access to technology or education, or where the devices go straight to the people you support. You can still ask us to source and refurbish equipment for you at cost, with no margin, and we’ll quote before you commit. We may also be able to work with you through a partnership.
We’re a school. Can we get donated devices?+

What if you don’t have what we need?+
When you make a request, you choose what happens if we don’t have a suitable device: we can send you a quote to source and refurbish one at cost, or your request can wait for donated stock. Phones and tablets usually go through source and refurbish.
Do you ever vary your pricing or offer partnerships?+
Sometimes, at our discretion, where it advances our purpose. We record the reason each time. Talk to us.

Every request is reviewed by a real person. Approval considers eligibility, available stock, impact, fair distribution, and logistics.
Simple agreement
Approved organisations sign a short agreement covering acceptable use, custody, and no-resale. Digitally accepted and recorded.
Meeting eligibility criteria does not guarantee assistance. Techie Australia reserves the right to decline any request at its discretion.
